Moment #10: Century Club
Four WCHA players reached the career 100-point milestone during the 2015-16 season Alaska's Tyler Morley, Minnesota State's Teddy Blueger and Bryce Gervais, and Alaska Anchorage's Blake Tatchell. That quartet joined incumbent Alex Petan (Michigan Tech) the WCHA's Player of the Year and a Hobey Baker Memorial Award Top-10 Finalist to give the league five active Century Club members by season's end.
Morley reached the mark in dramatic fashion Nov. 6, scoring a pair of first-period goals to lead the Nanooks to a 5-2 victory over Northern Michigan. His second strike gave Alaska a 2-0 lead, and came with his parents in attendance for the milestone marker. "It was pretty special," Morley said. "After the second goal went in I took a moment and looked over at my parents because I wanted to get this 100th point for them for helping me through everything in my hockey career. It means a lot to me that they were here and it was super special to get that in front of them and to see their smiles from the stands." He finished his Alaska tenure with 122 points (60g-62a) in 129 games.
Blueger became the 11th Minnesota State player in the program's D-I era to reach the milestone with a two-assist effort in a 3-3 tie Feb. 12 at Alabama Huntsville. The Riga, Latvia native and Pittsburgh Penguins prospect concluded his four-year collegiate career with 108 points (31g-77a) in 155 games.
Gervais gave Minnesota State an even dozen in the program's D-I Century Club with a pair of assists in the Mavericks' 3-0, Game 3 win over Lake Superior State in the WCHA quarterfinals. The Battleford, Saskatchewan native, who did not miss a game in his college career, set Minnesota State records for consecutive games played and career games played. He scored the Mavericks' lone goal in the Broadmoor Trophy championship game at the Final Five - his 163rd and final collegiate contest - to wrap up his career with 101 points (67g-34a)
Tatchell recorded his 100th career point Feb. 19, scoring a goal in a 3-2 loss to Lake Superior State. The North Battleford, Saskatchewan native one of just 23 Seawolves in the Century Club finished his 142-game UAA career with 31 goals and 72 assists for 103 points.
Petan, who reached the 100-point milestone as a junior in 2014-15, added 33 points during a dynamic senior campaign in which he helped Michigan Tech earn a share of the MacNaughton Cup title. All told, he accumulated 135 points (59g-76a) in a Huskies uniform.
