OMAHA, Neb. - Ryan Walters scored midway through the third period to help the UNO Mavericks to a 2-2 tie with Quinnipiac on Friday night at the CenturyLink Center. The game was the opener of their non-conference series. The Mavericks are now 9-8-4 on the year while the Bobcats are 11-6-4. The two teams finish the series on Saturday afternoon with a special 2:07 p.m. faceoff. On the game-tying goal, Zahn Raubenheimer held the puck at the right wing hash marks and fired a shot that caromed off a defender right to Walters on the left wing. He picked his spot before firing home his seventh goal of the year past a sprawling Eric Hartzell. The Bobcats opened the scoring at 8:39. Jeremy Langlois broke down the left wing and flipped a pass to Russell Goodman who fired a shot past a helpless John Faulkner. UNO tied the game late in the period. Johnnie Searfoss and Brent Gwidt worked a nifty give-and-go through the neutral zone. Searfoss then threw the puck to a wide open Gwidt who flipped home his fourth of the year, a new career high.
