FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves fell to the Omaha Mavericks, 3-1 in a non-conference game that doubles as Game 1 of the Brice Alaska Goal Rush on Friday at the Carlson Center. Alaska Fairbanks will host Canisius in Game 2 later.

The Seawolves (0-3-0) remained winless after allowing a two-goal first period by the Mavericks (1-0-0), who were playing in their season opener. UAA ended the shutout in the second, before UNO landed the final dagger in the third.

Scoring his first collegiate goal and UAA's first on the man advantage this season was sophomore redshirt Jonah Renouf. Junior forward Austin Azurdia came in and lost the puck to the right of Anchorage local netminder Kris Oldham, where freshman forward Aleksi Ainali gathered the loose puck and found a streaking Renouf on the backdoor at 16:10.

The night started when UNO opened the scoring with back-to-back goals in the first period - just 31 seconds apart. Scoring for the Mavericks was Ryan Jones at 9:39 and Tristan Keck at 10:10, respectively. Omaha's final tally of the game came on the power play in the third period, when Austin Ortega capitalized on a backdoor advantage.

Getting his first start with the Green & Gold between the pipes was senior Rasmus Reijola. Reijola furnished 30 saves in the loss, while Oldham - getting his first collegiate win - turned aside 23. UNO hit Reijola with 33 shots, while UAA put up a season-high 24.

UAA was 1-for-8 on the power play, while killing off five of UNO's six man advantages. UAA was tagged for eight penalties to UNO's nine.

The Seawolves were without Jonah's twin brother, Nathan, who was fighting a lower body injury.

UAA will take on Canisius tomorrow at 4 p.m. ADT in Game 3 of the tournament.
