HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team wrapped up the 2016-17 home slate with a 5-2 victory over rival Bemidji State on Saturday at Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center in the final game of the two-game WCHA series. UAH improves to 9-20-3 (9-14-3 WCHA), while BSU slips to 19-11-3 (19-4-2 WCHA).

Turning Point

- With Bemidji State leading 2-1 after 20 minutes of play, UAH charged back to regain the lead on back-to-back goals by sophomore Tyler Poulsen at 3:11 and 10:43 of the second period en route to the 5-2 drubbing.

Inside the Box Score

- Junior Brennan Saulnier put UAH on the board for the second night in a row as he potted an unassisted marker at 13:47 of the first period.

- However, Bemidji State answered the early UAH goal with two of its own in the first period at 13:47 by Kyle Bauman and at 18:02 by Gerry Fitzgerald.

- The Chargers were able to regain the lead after Poulsen's second-period tallies at 3:11 and 10:43 of the second which would give UAH a 3-2 lead heading into the third.

- Both sides went scoreless in the third period until Matt Salhany pushed the Charger lead to 4-2 at 12:37 of the third before Hans Gorowsky made it a 5-2 final with an empty-net goal at 18:36 of the third.

- Senior Carmine Guerriero picked up his first win of the 2016-17 campaign to improve his season record to 1-7-0, after subbing in for the second period and shutting out Bemidji State over the final 40 minutes with 23 saves.

- UAH posted 25 shots on goal in the contest, led by Connor James, Brandon Parker and Poulsen with four apiece.

Noteworthy

- Saulnier has now scored a goal in three consecutive games, and had his third, two-point game of the season with an additional assist on Poulsen's first goal.

- Knight has assists in three straight games, and now leads the Chargers with a career-high 16 assists.

- Poulsen's two-goal game was the first of his career.

- This was the Chargers first win over Bemidji State since Feb. 28, 2014, and the first victory over the Beavers at home since Jan. 8, 2011.

Next Time Out

- UAH will be away from competition next weekend before heading to Bowling Green on Feb. 24-25 to wrap up the regular season.
