Pittsburgh, Pa. - Ferris State University freshman goaltender Justin Kapelmaster turned in an electric 58 save effort as the Bulldogs tied nationally sixth-ranked Boston College 1-1 in the consolation final of the Three Rivers Classic tournament on Friday (Dec. 30) in Pittsburgh. Kapelmaster made on average a save per minute through two periods of play and sophomore forward Corey Mackin scored his seventh goal of the season in the tie only 14 seconds into the game.

Mackin's goal came when senior defenseman Ryan Lowney wired a shot through traffic from the blue line. The puck bounced next off of senior forward Jared VanWormer and right to Mackin, who fired it into the gaping open cage only seconds into the outing.

The score stood much of the way as Kapelmaster went under siege several times and made acrobatic saves throughout the evening to keep the Bulldogs up until 15:13 of the third period.

Boston College defenseman Michael Kim blasted a slapshot on the power play through traffic that Kapelmaster couldn't track. Kim's goal stood as the game-tying goal for the Eagles as the teams went scoreless through five-on-five sudden death overtime.

A shootuout was held for tournament placement purposes, but does not count in any official capacity. Boston College won the shootout 1-0.

The tie is Ferris State's first since Oct. 22 vs. the Northern Michigan Wildcats and only their second of the season.

Kapelmaster's 58-save performance went down as one of the top 25 single-game marks in the 65-year history of the WCHA.

Friday's contest represented the first matchup between Ferris State and Boston College since the 2012 NCAA National Championship Game.

Ferris State will resume WCHA play as the Bulldogs make the trek to face the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 6-7. Both puck drops are scheduled for 11:07 p.m. (ET) as FSU opens the second half of conference play.
