GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Ralph Engelstad Arena) - The Bemidji State University men's hockey team got goals from Jay Dickman, Brendan Harms and Dillon Eichstadt in the third period, but the rally would fall short as the University of North Dakota held on for a 5-4 nonconference victory to complete the series sweep, Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D.

Trailing 4-1 to open the third period and then falling behind 5-1 three-minutes and 44-seconds into the frame, BSU looked to be headed toward the wrong end of a blow out, but someone forgot to tell the Beavers. Dickman recorded a power-play goal at the 6:07 mark. Harms followed with a power-play goal of his own midway through the period (10:05) to pull UND even closer.

Down two goals, 5-3, with just over two minutes to play, BSU Head Coach Tom Serratore called a timeout and elected to pull goaltender Michael Bitzer to an extra attacker. Less than 40 seconds later Harms was escorted to the penalty box leaving the Beavers short-handed, although the teams skated five-on-five with BSU's net still empty. With just over 30 seconds to go, Eichstadt fired a shot from the point that rattled off the UND goaltender and into the net for the first goal of his collegiate career, but time would run out on the BSU rally and the nation's top team escaped with the one-goal victory.

For the second consecutive night, the Beavers were the first to get on the scoreboard.

Leo Fitzgerald opened the scoring at the 2:53 mark of the first period with help from Gerry Fitzgerald and Dan Billett. It was his first goal of the 2016-17 season.

The Fighting Hawks just 51 seconds to respond as Brock Boeser was credited with a goal that deflected off of a pair of Beaver defensemen.

As time ran out in the first, Tyson Jost rang a shot off the post and Shane Gersich collected the rebounds and beat BSU goaltender Michael Bitzer to give the Fighting Hawks the lead, 2-1, with 15.5 seconds left.

Trailing 2-1 to open the second, BSU looked to have the game tied just moments into the period when Brendan Harms missed a one-timer in front of the UND net and the Fighting Hawks' Zach Yon beat Bitzer in transition to put UND up 3-1 just 23 seconds into the frame.

The Fighting Hawks would take a 4-1 lead into the final period as Boeser corralled a rebound to score his second goal of the night and fifth of the weekend with just 2:26 left in the second setting up a wild third period.

Bitzer saw his record dip to 4-2-0 after making 28 saves on 33 shots faced.

The Beavers, now 4-2-0 overall, returns to Sanford Center and shifts its focus back to Western Collegiate Hockey Association play Oct. 28-29 when it hosts University of Alaska Anchorage. Game time for both games of the series is set for 7:07 p.m.
