Mankato, Minn. --- 14th-rated Minnesota State snapped a seven-game losing streak to St. Cloud State, skating to a 4-1 win over the seventh-rated Huskies Friday in Mankato.

The last time Minnesota State had beaten SCSU was in 2011-12 and with the win the Mavericks improve to 3-0-0 for 2016-17.

The Mavericks took an early 1-0 lead after senior center Michael Hunterbrinker took a nice pass from junior defenseman Clint Lewis and beat St. Cloud State goaltender Jeff Smith for his first goal of the season at the 3:28 mark of the opening period.

Minnesota State extended its lead at 1:46 of the second period when junior centerman C.J. Franklin received a pass from freshman winger Marc Machaelis from behind the St. Cloud State net and one-time a shot past Smith for a power play goal. The goal is Franklin's third goal of the season. Brad McClure got his first goal of the year when he roofed one over Smith's shoulder at 9:04 of the second period after another set-up by Michaelis. Freshman forward Jake Wahlin countered late in the middle stanza for St. Cloud State, making it a 3-1 Maverick lead after two periods of action.

Sophomore Max Coatta added an insurance marker at 13:57 of the third period to round out the scoring in the game.

The Mavericks and the Huskies both put 24 shots on goal and Minnesota State senior netminder Cole Huggins, who was credited with 23 saves, upped his record for the year to 3-0-0. SCSU went zero-for-two in power play chances, while Minnesota State connected on its only opportunity with the man advantage.

The two teams close out the two-game nonconference series Saturday with a 7:07 p.m. face-off scheduled at Verizon Wireless Center.
