Mankato, Minn. --- 14th-rated Minnesota State got two goals each from Parker Tuomie and Clint Lewis in earning a 6-4 win over visiting #7 St. Cloud State Saturday.

The Mavericks improve their record to 4-0-0 on the season while St. Cloud State falls to 0-2-0 on their young season.

The start to the year marks the first time Minnesota State has started the season with four straight wins since the 1998-99 season when they got out of the games with a 6-0-0 run. Tonight's win also marks the first time the Mavericks have swept St. Cloud State since the 2007-08 season.

Junior defenseman Clint Lewis ignited the scoring early for Minnesota State with a wrist shot from the point that beat St. Cloud State goaltender Zach Driscoll just 20 seconds into the first period for his first goal as a Maverick. Lewis added his second goal of the contest five minutes later when his shot deflected off a defender's skate into the net in giving Minnesota State a 2-0 lead. The Huskies countered with two goals of their own with junior wingers Ryan Papa (5:34) and Judd Peterson (6:22) knotting the score and when Blake Winiecki grabbed his own rebound and connected on a shot that beat Cole Huggins at 10:56, St. Cloud State went into the locker room owning a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period.

Senior centerman Jordan Nelson tallied his first goal of the year at 2:26 of the second to tie the game, but SCSU senior Daniel Tedesco scored at the 5:19 mark, allowing the Huskies to regain the lead. Freshman forward Parker Toumie netted his first career goal at 7:43 as the Mavericks tied it up again and when sophomore Chandler Mandry tallied his first marker of the year to make it 5-4, the Mavericks took the lead for the final time. Toumie added his second goal of the game at 11:04 to round out the scoring in the game as both teams were held scoreless in the third.

Maverick goaltender Cole Huggins recorded 23 saves in the contest improving his record to 4-0-0 on the season.

Next action for Minnesota State comes next weekend when the Mavericks resume WCHA action with a pair of contests at the University of Alaska.
