MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University Hockey took on #15 Bowling Green State University in game one of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Semifinals but fell to the Falcons 6-1.
AN EVEN FIRST
The first period started and ended with the same 0-0 score as neither team was able to find the net through the first 20 minutes. Both teams got many shots on goal, with both also getting three power play opportunities but the teams stayed tied at 0-0 to end the first period.
BGSU struck first as they scored just 1:35 into the first period. They then added another goal four minutes later to go up 2-0.
The guests managed to put two more goals into the net to open the third period before the Wildcats were able to put a goal into the net 8:55 into the period. However, the #15 Falcons got two more goals in the net to get a 6-1 victory.
Freshman Griffin Loughran (West Seneca, N.Y.) got the Wildcats on the board 8:55 into the third period to score his seventh goal of the season. Seniors Troy Loggins (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Adam Rockwood (Coquitlam, B.C.) notched assists on the goal. For Loggins, it was his 17th of the year while Rockwood tallied his 27th.
NMU returns Saturday night to take on BGSU in game two of the WCHA Semifinals. With a win, the Wildcats will force a game three on Sunday night.
