Freshman forward Nick Cardelli scored a goal for the Beavers
Bemidji State Comes Up Short Against St. Cloud State, 7-4

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Nine different Bemidji State University players recorded a point as the Beavers broke out of a scoring slump, but No. 2 St. Cloud State University out matched BSU and took the game 7-4 to sweep the series.

The Huskies used a three-goal first period to jump out to and early lead and would need every bit of that cushion before running away with non-conference victory.

SCSU opened the scoring at the 10:34 mark on a goal by Jimmy Schuldt, but the Beavers would bounce back to even the score 51 seconds later when Connor Brown-Maloski connected with Nick Cardelli. However, the Huskies would reapply the pressure just minutes later when Kevin Fitzgerald and Patrick Newell posted back-to-back goals, separated by just 41 seconds, to put SCSU up 3-1.

The teams again combined for four goals in the second period.

The Huskies open the scoring at the seven-minute mark when Robbie Jackson beat BSU goaltender Zach Driscoll. The goal ended the night for the sophomore after 27 minutes and four goals allowed. The change would spark a comeback for the Beavers. Taking advantage of their first power-play opportunity of the evening. Adam Brady scored his team-leading third power-play goal of the season with help from Charlie Combs and Justin Baudry at the 10:18 mark. Forty-one seconds later, Alex Ierullo netted his second goal of the season to trim the SCSU lead to 4-3. St. Cloud State got a goal at the 16:00 mark from John Lizotte to take a 5-3 lead into the final 20 minutes of play.

Fitzgerald and Schuldt would combine for consecutive goals in the first 8:28 of the third to build the Huskies' lead to 7-3.

BSU senior Jay Dickman netted his second goal of the season at the 9:19 mark of the frame. Darby Gula and Brendan Harris were credited with assists on the play. The tally would be all the Beavers would muster and SCSU cruised to the victory.

Jack Bugart made 11 saves and allowed three goals in 33 minutes of play in relief of Driscoll. Driscoll was tagged with the loss after allowing four SCSU goals.

The Beavers (5-4-1; 3-1-0 WCHA) returns to Sanford Center to host Minnesota State University, Mankato for a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. The puck is set to drop at 7:07 p.m. Friday and again Saturday.
