LOWELL, Mass. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team dropped its 2019-20 season opener at UMass Lowell by a final score of 5-1 on Saturday night at Tsongas Center. UAH dips to 0-1-0, while UML rises to 1-0-0.

Turning Point

-With the Chargers on the power play midway through the second period, UML's Kenny Hausinger scored shorthanded at 10:59 to put the hosts up 2-0 on the way to topping UAH 5-1 on Saturday.

Scoring Breakdown

-The River Hawks opened the scoring early in first period with a tally by Colin O'Neill at 1:21, when he sent in a rebound off a shot from the blue line.

-UMass Lowell pushed its lead to 2-0 at 10:59 of the second period as Hausinger scored on a shorthanded breakaway.

-Christian Rajic sent in the Chargers first goal of the season on a one-timer off a feed from Jack Jeffers on a 2-on-1 opportunity which cut the UML lead to 2-1.

-UML struck three times in the third period to bring the game to its final score of 5-1 with goals by Matt Brown at 6:12, Zach Kaiser at 8:27 and Andre Lee at 14:21.

Inside the Box Score

-Mark Sinclair started in goal for the Chargers and turned in a total of 29 saves during the game.

-UAH held UMass Lowell to one goal in five power-play chances.

-The Chargers accrued 27 shots on goal in the contest, led by Lucas Bahn, Daneel Lategan and Rajic with three apiece.

-Both Tanner Hickey and Liam Izyk had two shots on goal.

-Four Chargers had even ratings on the ice.

-The game featured a total of 14 penalties for 28 penalty minutes.


-Rajic's goal gives him 30 points in his career with 13 goals and 17 assists.

-Eight UAH freshmen played in their first collegiate game on Saturday.
