Wisconsin's Prevost, St. Cloud State's Friend, Minnesota Duluth's McParland Named WCHA Women's Players of the Week

WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

photo Veteran University of Wisconsin forward Carolyne Prévost, who registered a three-goal hat trick and seven scoring points in two-game conference road series at North Dakota last weekend, has been the WCHA Women's Offensive Player of the Week for Jan. 17.

A senior left winger from Sarnia, Ontario, Prévost scored four goals and set up three others for seven points in the series, fired 11 shots on goal and earned a +3 plus/minus rating as then No. 2-ranked UW beat No. 6-ranked North Dakota 8-2 last Saturday (Jan. 14) and then tied them 4-4 in overtime last Sunday (Jan. 15) at Grand Forks, before UND won a 2-1 shootout for the extra point. In the series opener, Prévost had a goal and three assists and in game two she scored the first three goals of the game for her second hat trick of the season.

In 17 games played this season, Prévost has 36 points on 17 goals and 19 assists to rank fourth in scoring among the Badgers.

WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Julie Friend - Freshman, Goaltender

photo St. Cloud State goaltender Julie Friend, who backstopped the Huskies to a two-game conference road sweep at Minnesota State last weekend, has been honored as the WCHA Women's Defensive Player of the Week for Jan. 17.

A freshman from Minnetonka, Minn., Friend continued her hot play in goal for the Huskies, anchoring SCSU's current three-game win streak. Against Minnesota State last Friday (Jan. 13), Friend made 39 saves in a 4-2 St. Cloud State victory, with one of the two goals she allowed coming on the power-play. Then last Saturday (Jan. 14), Friend came back to make 28 more saves on 29 shots, with the only goal against her coming on the power-play, as the visiting Huskies completed the sweep over the Mavericks with a 3-1 triumph. On the weekend, Friend stopped 67 of 70 shots on goal for a .957 saves percentage.

On the season, Friend has all five of her team's wins with a 5-5-0 overall record, a 3.33 goals-against average and a .894 saves percentage over 611:55 of action.

WCHA Rookie of the Week
Jenna McParland - Freshman, Forward

photo University of Minnesota Duluth forward Jenna McParland, who netted two of her team's four goals in a conference victory over then No. 1-ranked Minnesota last weekend, has been named the WCHA Women's Rookie of the Week for Jan. 17.

A freshman right winger from Schreiber, Ontario, McParland scored two goals, put six shots on goal and earned a +3 plus/minus rating last Friday (Jan. 13) as the host Bulldogs downed the Golden Gophers 4-2 at AMSOIL Arena. McParland, who leads UMD in goals scored this season with 15, scored an early equalizer just 1:33 into play then iced the game with a power-play goal late in the second period.

McParland, who ranks No. 9 among all NCAA Div. 1 rookie scorers with 21 points and first in the WCHA among rookies with 18 points (13g, 5a), has scored two or more goals five times this season.
