EDINA, Minn. Oct. 13, 2016 In a historic agreement for the women's Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), the league has partnered with FOX Sports North on the Association's first-ever extended women's hockey television package. The region's preeminent sports network will televise eight regular season contests during the 2016-17 campaign, plus the WCHA Final Face-Off championship game.

The 2016-17 package will feature six of the eight WCHA Women's League schools: Bemidji State University, the University of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State University, St. Cloud State University and the University of Wisconsin.

"This opportunity to provide extended television coverage of WCHA women's hockey on FOX Sports North is an exciting development for the league, our programs and our fans," said Katie Million, WCHA Vice President and Women's League Commissioner. "We are so very proud of the amazing student-athletes, coaches and institutions of the WCHA, and are thrilled to showcase the nation's best college hockey on this platform. We thank FOX Sports North for this partnership and applaud them for sharing our commitment to growing women's hockey throughout the region."

"FOX Sports North is proud to partner with college hockey's premier women's conference," said Mike Dimond, Senior Vice President and General Manager for FOX Sports North. "The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) has a rich tradition of success, and we welcome the opportunity to showcase these fine student-athletes."

Women's College Hockey on FOX Sports North begins on Sunday, December 4, as the reigning WCHA champion Wisconsin Badgers host the back-to-back defending national champion Minnesota Gophers in a contest that will also be shown on FOX Sports Wisconsin. The schedule includes Minnesota at Minnesota Duluth on Friday, January 13, and a marquee match-up between St. Cloud State and Minnesota State on Saturday, January 21, as part of the network's 11th Annual Hockey Day Minnesota event.

Fans will also see key late-season contests, as Bemidji State visits St. Cloud State on Feb. 10 and 11, and Minnesota Duluth hosts the Huskies in the regular season finale on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Telecasts from Minnesota Duluth's AMSOIL Arena are made possible in part by the Bulldog Athletics partnership with the My9 sports network and Quincy Media, while St. Cloud State's home games will be produced by the award-winning student crew of Husky Productions.

Hockey Day Minnesota

An iconic showcase of the state's most cherished sport, the 11th Annual Hockey Day Minnesota will feature WCHA women's hockey for the first time as St. Cloud State hosts Minnesota State at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

"Hockey Day Minnesota has become such a huge thing and is so special for Minnesota hockey players and fans," said SCSU captain Lauren Hespenheide, a native of Shakopee, Minn. "To be able to be a part of it is an awesome feeling, and being from Minnesota makes it that much more meaningful. It's exciting being able to say that I will be playing in a game that is televised during this event!"

Added Mankato, Minn. native Savannah Quandt, a senior forward at Minnesota State and an alternate captain for the Mavericks: "I think it is awesome to be a part of Hockey Day Minnesota 2017. It is a great way to show kids and families what the Minnesota hockey community has to offer. Playing in a televised game brings a whole new level of excitement because more people are watching. In Minnesota, we all grew up watching hockey on television. It is a great event to be a part of."
