Best-of-three quarterfinal round series held at host sites Feb. 23-26

EDINA, Minn. Feb. 19, 2016 With one game remaining in the 2016-17 regular season schedule, the pairings have been set for the quarterfinal round of the women's Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Playoffs, to be held at the home sites of the top four seeds the weekend of Feb. 23-26. All four series are best-of-three, with the winners advancing to the 2017 WCHA Final Face-Off, held March 4 and 5 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.

The winner of the 2017 WCHA Final Face-Off receives the league's automatic bid into the National Collegiate Women's Hockey Championship.

Pairings and start times for the best-of-three quarterfinals of the 2017 WCHA Playoffs (team's seed is in parentheses):

Games of Thursday, Feb. 23: (6) St. Cloud State at (3) Minnesota Duluth, 3:07 p.m. CT.

Games of Friday, Feb. 24: (5) Ohio State at (4) North Dakota, 2:07 p.m. CT; St. Cloud State at Minnesota Duluth, 3:07 p.m. CT; (7) Bemidji State at (2) Minnesota, 6:07 p.m. CT; (8) Minnesota State at (1) Wisconsin, 7:07 p.m. CT.

Games of Saturday, Feb. 25: Ohio State at North Dakota, 2:07 p.m. CT; Bemidji State at Minnesota, 4:07 p.m. CT; Minnesota State at Wisconsin, 4:07 p.m. CT.

Games of Sunday, Feb. 26 (if necessary): Ohio State at North Dakota, 2:07 p.m. CT; St. Cloud State at Minnesota Duluth, 3:07 p.m. CT; Minnesota State at Wisconsin, 3:07 p.m. CT; Bemidji State at Minnesota, 4:07 p.m. CT.

Wisconsin, which has been the nation's top-ranked team since the preseason, won its second-consecutive WCHA regular season championship and sixth in program history. Nationally fourth-ranked and two-time defending national champion Minnesota is the No. 2 seed, while nationally second-ranked Minnesota Duluth which had a nine-win improvement over its 2015-16 regular season is the third seed. North Dakota rounds out the host schools, while the Fighting Hawks will play an Ohio State team that rose two places in the league standings under first-year head coach Nadine Muzerall.

Two of the quarterfinal round series are rematches of the final regular season weekend, as the Buckeyes return to Grand Forks after splitting there Feb. 17-18, while the Bulldogs host the Huskies five days after completing a season-ending sweep. Only one series is a repeat of 2016, as Wisconsin will host Minnesota State for the second consecutive year.

2017 WCHA Final Face-Off

The premier conference tournament in women's college hockey, the 2017 WCHA Final Face-Off will be held March 4-5, 2017 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. Annually featuring a collection of the nation's highest-ranked programs and top players, the four winning teams from the WCHA's best-of-three, quarterfinal round playoff series advance to the Final Face-Off to compete for the league's playoff championship and an automatic berth to the 2017 National Collegiate Women's Hockey Championship.
