MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State dropped an overtime contest to Bemidji State Friday evening, 2-1.
Freshman forward Kathleen Rogan put Minnesota State up 1-0 at the 16:13 mark of the first period when senior forward Nina Tikkinen and Rogan jumped out to a 2-on-1 breakaway and Tikkinen sent a cross-net pass to Rogan who beat Bemidji State goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova glove side. Junior captain Ariel Mackely also tallied an assist on the goal.
The Beavers answered at the 15:35 of the second frame when Bemidji State forward Lauren Williams' shot was stopped, but sophomore forward Emily Erickson put in the rebound past MSU netminder Alli Altmann glove side, low.
Just :56 into overtime, the Beavers capitalized on a power play tally netted by forward Montana Vichorek. Vichorek ripped a slap shot from the top of the right circle over the shoulder of Altmann glove side. Altmann finished the game with 31 saves, while Tomcikova stopped 17.
Bemidji State outshot the Mavericks, 33-18 and went 1-for-3 on power play chances, while MSU went 0-for-3.
The Mavericks (6-11-2, 5-7-0-0 WCHA) and the Beavers (8-7-2, 6-5-2-1 WCHA) will wrap-up action tomorrow afternoon at All Seasons Arena at 3:07 p.m.
