Emily Erickson scored the decisive shootout goal for BSU

Mankato, Minn. --- The Mavericks and Beavers skated to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon with Bemidji State earning the extra point with the shoot out win.

After a scoreless first period, the Beavers opened the scoring at the 16:43 of the second when senior forward Erin Cody tipped an Erika Wheelhouse shot from the point past MSU goaltender Alli Altmann.

The Mavericks knotted things up at the 11:01 mark of the third period. Sophomore forward Lauren Smith brought the puck into BSU's zone, and then slid the puck across the net to junior alternate captain Moria O'Connor who put the puck past Beaver netminder Zuzana Tomcikova on the forehand. Sophomore blueliner Emilia Andersson also assisted on the goal.

Neither team was able to capitalize in overtime, so the two teams tied and went to a shoot out for the extra WCHA point. MSU's first attempt was made by freshman Kathleen Rogan who scored, but was answered when Bemidji State's Erin Cody beat Altmann. Smith missed for the Mavericks and the Beavers earned the extra point when Emily Erickson scored.

Bemidji State outshot MSU, 26-19, while neither team was able to tally a power play score; MSU went 0-for-2 and the Beavers went 0-for-3.

Altmann finished with 25 saves, while Tomcikova had 18.

The Mavericks will return to action January 7-8 when they travel to face Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn.
