Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State and Robert Morris battled to a 2-2 tie Saturday afternoon at All Seasons Arena. With the tie, the Mavericks end a five-game losing streak.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first frame when freshman forward Melissa Klippenstein tipped junior forward Emmi Leinonen's shot past Colonial goaltender Kristen DiCiocco's glove side.
The Colonials would steal the lead in the second period with a pair of tallies from Colonila forward Brianna Delaney. The first came at the 5:47 mark when Delaney kept the puck in the MSU zone and walked down the slot and beat MSU netminder Danielle Butters high glove side. On the second, at the 16:12 mark of the second, Delany received a long outlet pass from line mate Sarah O'Malley and backhanded the puck past Butters.
Sophomore forward Lauren Zrust knotted things up in the third at the 2:07 mark. MSU won the face-off in the Colonial zone and Zrust one-timed Kelsie Scott's pass by Diciocco.
Butters finished the contest with eight saves, while Robert Morris goaltender DiCiocco stopped 29 shots.
The Mavericks outshot Robert Morris, 31-10. Robert Morris finished the game going 1-for-4 on the power play, while MSU finished 0-for-4.
The Mavericks (6-10-2, 5-7-0-0 WCHA) will start up WCHA competition next weekend when they host Bemidji State for a pair of contests. Friday's game is slated for 7:07 p.m., while Saturday's is scheduled for 3:07 p.m.
