Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State Mavericks dropped their final regular-season contest Saturday to first-rated Wisconsin in Mankato, 9-1. The Mavericks will enter the post-season with a 8-23-3 overall and 7-20-1-0 in the WCHA, while #1 Wisconsin improves to 30-2-2 overall and 24-2-2-2 in the WCHA.
Seniors forward Lisa Edman, forward Nina Tikkinen and defenseman Amy Udvig were honored prior to Saturday's game as they competed in the final regular-season game of their careers.
Wisconsin and Minnesota State exchanged goals midway through the first period with senior winger Meghan Duggan put the Badgers up 1-0 at 11:11 of the first, followed by freshman forward Tracy McCann knotting things up at one each at 14:34 of the first.
It was all Wisconsin after that, as the Badgers scored three more in the first, three in the second and two more in the third, making the final, 9-1.
McCann scored MSU's lone goal and was assisted by freshman center Kari Lundberg and junior defenseman Jackie Otto.
Wisconsin was led by junior Hilary Knight who finished the game with three goals and two assists.
MSU goaltender Alli Altmann finished the game with 24 saves in two periods of action, and Danielle Butters started the third and stopped eight shots. Wisconsin netminder Becca Ruegsegger picked up the win and had 10 saves.
Wisconsin had 41 shots to Minnesota State's 11.
The Mavericks (8-23-3, 7-20-1-0 WCHA) will be seeded seventh in the WCHA-Playoffs and begin postseason action next weekend at either Minnesota or Minnesota Duluth.
