St. Cloud, Minn.- The second ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers shut out the Huskies Saturday afternoon 7-0 at the National Hockey Center.
Despite being out shot 20-3 in the opening period, the Huskies only found themselves down a goal at the end of the 1st. The Golden Gophers got on the scoreboard at the 12:20 mark as Sarah Erickson scored with assists going to Emily West and Megan Bozek. Freshman goaltender Julie Friend had 19 saves for the Huskies through one period.
It only took Minnesota 49 seconds into the 2nd to extend their lead. Sarah Davis scored with assists coming from Rachel Ramsey and Amanda Kessel. West would score two goals to close out the scoring in the second period; the first coming at 5:35, with an assist going to Erickson, and the other at 17:01 of the period, with an assist going to Davis. For West it was her 17th and 18th goals of the season.
Minnesota added a goal at 5:09, 5:53 and 11:55 of the 3rd to make it a 7-0 final. Kelly Terry, Becky Kortum, and Kessel scored the final three goals for Minnesota respectively. West finished with a four point night, scoring twice and adding two assists.
Noora Raty set a school record for the Gophers with her 22nd career shut out, while only having to make 14 saves. Freshman Julie Friend made 39 saves in the loss for the Huskies. Minnesota outshot St. Cloud State 46-14.
SCSU (5-23-2, 4-20 WCHA) will host No. 1 Wisconsin next weekend at the NHC. Game times are scheduled for 7:07 PM on Feb. 10 and 2:07 PM on Feb. 11
