Sydney Burghardt had two assists for the Huskies

Mankato, Minn.- Minnesota State got swept by St. Cloud State 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at All Seasons Arena. The Mavericks outshot the Huskies for the second-straight game Saturday, ending with a 29-26 MSU edge on shots.

The game started off the same as Friday night as the Huskies scored the first goal of the game. At the 17.46 minute mark of the first period, sophomore forward Molli Mott beat MSU goaltender Alli Altmann that was assisted by freshman Abby Ness and senior Brittany Toor.

It took only 5:55 into the second period before SCSU junior forward Jocelyn Zabrick scored for the Huskies bringing the score to 2-0.

A power-play goal for the Huskies at the 12:26 minute mark in the second period widened the SCSU lead to 3-0 when freshmen forward Abby Ness netted a goal that was assisted sophomore forwards Julia Gilbert and Sydney Burghardt.

2:35 minutes into the third period, the Mavericks found the net on the power-play when assistant captain Jackie Otto scored her third goal of the season upper glove side with assists from sophomore Lauren Barnes and junior Lauren Smith. Mavericks closed the gap by only trailing behind by 2 goals.

Unable to beat SCSU freshman goaltender Julie Friend again, the Mavericks were 1-for-3 on the power-play as the Huskies were 1-for-5.

With the the Mavericks (7-17-0, 3-15-0 WCHA) 3-1 loss to St. Cloud State (5-17-2, 4-14 WCHA), they look forward to next weekend as they hit the road against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
