ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team lost 6-2 against the University of North Dakota on Friday, Nov. 4 at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
The Huskies drop to 1-9-1 overall this season with the loss and remain winless in WCHA play (0-7-0), while the UND improves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-3-2 in the WCHA. The two teams will complete their weekend series at the NHC with a 2:07 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. Tickets for this game can be purchased at the gate.
North Dakota opened the offense on Nov. 4 with a power play goal at 6:14 by M. Lamoureux-Kolls. The Huskies returned the favor seconds later when SCSU junior forward Callie Dahl (Stillwater) charted her first goal of the season at 6:35 of the first. Sophomore defender Michelle Burke (London, Ontario) provided the single assist on the play, which made it 1-1.
UND pushed its lead to 2-1 with a power play marker by Jocelyne Lamoureux at 19:12 of the first.
In the second period, UND notched the game winner at 8:57 with a goal by Michelle Karvinen. North Dakota moved the score to 4-1 with a goal at 12:32 by Alyssa Wiebe.
In the third period, SCSU freshman forward Abby Ness (Roseau) scored her first collegiate goal at 7:02 with assists from sophomore forward Molli Mott (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior forward Brittany Toor (Hartland, Mich.).
To complete the game, UND's Michelle Karvinen and Lamoureux-Kolls added goals in the closing minutes of the third period to ice the game at 6-2.
In the contest, UND outshot the Huskies 44-24 as Husky goalie senior Tayler VanDenakker (Winnipeg, Manitoba) tallied 38 saves in the game. Stephanie Ney was the goalie of record for UND with 22 saves. On the power play, SCSU was 0-6 and UND was 2-3.
