COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 9 Ohio State women's hockey team fell by a final score of 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Value City Arena.
Following a scoreless first period the Bulldogs scored three goals in a five-minute span early in the second to jump on top 3-0. Sophomores Jenna McParland and Zoe Hickel, along with junior Brienna Gillanders all put in goals for Minnesota Duluth.
Senior forward Paige Semenza netted her 12th goal of the season to cut the lead to 3-1 heading into period three. Sophomores Kari Schmitt and Sara Schmitt tallied assists on the score, their 18th and 15th on the year, respectively.
Captain Hokey Langan brought the Buckeyes within a goal when she notched her sixth goal of the season at 4:42 in the third. Semenza and Tina Hollowell picked up assists on the score. Ohio State tried to use momentum the rest of the period, but the Bulldog defense held on and UMD closed the game with a 3-2 win.
Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp stopped 26 of 29 shots faced, while Bulldog goaltender Kayla Black stopped 28 of 30.
Ohio State (15-9-2, 10-8-2 WCHA) travels to Bemidji State next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2.
