COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with WCHA foe St. Cloud State Friday at the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes earned two points in the conference standings after taking a 1-0 shootout win.
Sophomore Danielle Gagne notched the only regulation goal for the Buckeyes. Junior Ally Tarr made the only goal of the shootout to give Ohio State the extra league point.
Gagne struck first for the Buckeyes with her sixth goal of the season at 11:45 in the first period. Tarr and freshman Bryanna Neuwald recorded assists.
The Huskies tied the score at 14:49 of the second period on a goal by Molli Mott.
Neuwald was called for tripping at 15:37 in the first period, but Ohio State completed the penalty kill, their only one of the night. The Buckeyes had two power play opportunities to go ahead in the third period but were unable to convert and finished 0-2 in the game.
Time expired in regulation with the score tied at one, leading to a five-minute overtime period. Overtime yielded no goals and the teams headed to a shootout to determine the winner of the second point.
After the first four skaters were shut down in the shootout, Tarr put one top shelf and redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp closed it out for the win.
Knapp finished the day with 30 saves while Julie Friend stopped 33 for the Huskies. Shots on goal were 34-31 in favor of the Buckeyes.
Ohio State (14-5-2, 9-4-2 WCHA) returns to the OSU Ice Rink Saturday at 4:07 p.m. ET to finish the series with the Huskies.
