St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team rounded out their two-game series at home with #6 North Dakota on Saturday as they fell 6-1.
Defense was a huge part of the first period for both teams with scoring not coming until the last seconds of the period. North Dakota took a 1-0 lead into intermission at 19:59 of the first on a shorthanded goal by Michelle Karvinen.
It was a mirror image of game one on Friday as the Huskies would come out in the second period on their first power-play opportunity with a determination to capitalize. St. Cloud's junior Abby Ness found the back of the net to tie the game up 1-1, 58 seconds into the period. Michelle Burke and Skye Kelly were recorded with the assists on the play.
The Huskies were unable to hold on as North Dakota would come back to score four goals in the second period, one of which was on a power-play and another was a shorthanded goal. UND took a 5-1 lead into the second intermission.
North Dakota sealed a 6-1 victory midway through the third period earning the sweep over the Huskies.
Starting in goal for St. Cloud was Julie Friend and the goalie of record playing 38:02 minutes, while Katie Fitzgerald posted 21:58 minutes of play coming into the game in the second period.
St. Cloud State (0-6-2, 0-5-1-1 WCHA) will take to the road Nov. 1-2 as they travel to Minnesota Duluth for a two-game series. Game times are set for 6:07 p.m. both days from AMSOIL Arena.
