COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's hockey team fell to No. 10 Robert Morris in non-conference action Tuesday night by a score of 2-1 at the OSU Ice Rink.
Robert Morris (13-3-1) outshot the Buckeyes 26-20 in a game which saw a number of penalties and stoppages. Each team was held scoreless on their respective power play chances, OSU going 0-7 while the Colonials went 0-6.
Senior goaltender Lisa Steffes made 24 saves in what was her sixth start of the season. RMU goaltender Jessica Dodds stopped 19 of the 20 shots faced and improves to 10-1-0 this season for the Colonials.
Following a scoreless opening period, freshman forward Claudia Kepler was set up nicely in front of the net with a pass from sophomore Julia McKinnon and capitalized on it by putting a shot past Dodds at the 5:06 mark of the second period for her third score of the season. Junior defenseman Sara Schmitt also had an assist on the play for the Buckeyes.
The Colonials would get the equalizer three and a half minutes later on a score from Brittany Howard. The game-winning score came at 4:13 of the third period off the stick of Rebecca Vint, her ninth goal of the season.
After starting the season 3-1-1 with two wins over nationally ranked opponents, Ohio State has dropped eight of nine and now sits at 3-9-2 overall and 2-8-2 in the WCHA.
The Buckeyes will look to get back on track this weekend with a trip to Durham, N. H. for a pair of non-conference games with New Hampshire Nov. 30-Dec. 1. Game times are set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
