BEMIDJI, Minn. - Kaitlyn Tougas scored a goal and added a pair of assists to lead the Bemidji State University women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Western Collegiate Hockey Association-rival University of North Dakota Friday at Sanford Center. The victory over North Dakota was the first for Bemidji State since Nov. 26, 2011. BSU improves to 6-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in conference play, while UND drops to 4-6-1 overall and 3-5-1 in WCHA play.

North Dakota lit the lamp first with a goal by Lisa Marvin at the 3:22 mark in the first period. BSU answered less than two minutes later with a goal from Stephanie Anderson to tie the game, 1-1.

The line of Anderson, Tougas and Alex Citrowske struck again at the 16:12 mark in the first period with Citrowske's third goal of the season to put the Beavers on top 2-1.

Bemidji State and North Dakota skated to a deadlock in the second stanza as the two squads tied in shots on goal (nine) and power-play chances (one). However, BSU's Rachael Kelly chipped in a goal off a UND defender with three seconds left to extend the Beavers' lead to 3-1 going into the third.

The Beavers held UND's offense off the board for the third period for the victory. UND pulled its goaltender with just under two minutes to play and the Beavers took advantage of the empty net as Tougas netted a goal to make the final, 4-1.

Brittni Mowat made 26 saves, while allowing just one goal to earn her fourth win of the season. Mowat's record improves to 4-2-1 this season.
