BEMIDJI, Minn. - Junior Kaitlyn Tougas netted a short-handed goal, while Brittni Mowat made 14 saves to help the Bemidji State University women's hockey team defeat St. Cloud State University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at Sanford Center.

Tougas gave the Beavers all the offense they would need at the 10:44 mark of the second period with her fourth career short-handed goal. Following the goal by Tougas, the Beavers' defense stiffened to kill off three SCSU power-play chances and stop all seven shots on goal put forth by the Huskies to finish off the series sweep.

The win helped the Beavers claim the season series against the Huskies for the fourth time in the past five seasons and improve to 16-13-1 overall and 11-12-1 in league play.

Notes on Bemidji State

Bemidji State notched its 16th victory of the season today, which is one shy of the program record for the most victories in the season. The record is 17, which was set by the 2011-12 squad.

Kaitlyn Tougas netted her fourth career short-handed goal in the second period. The four short-handed goals ties a program record for the most in a career with former Beavers Erin Cody and Lill Raynard.

Tougas' short-handed goal was also the first of the season by the Beavers this season.

Goaltender Brittni Mowat improved her record to 14-9-1 with the win in net against St. Cloud State.

Mowat's 14 victories are the most by a BSU goaltender in a single season in program history. The previous record was 13 by Zuzana Tomcikova in 2011-12.

Sophomore Madison Hutchinson tallied her 21st career assist on Tougas' goal in the second, which is tied for the sixth-most by a defenseman in program history with former Beaver Brooke Collins.

The pair of victories against St. Cloud State this weekend not only gave the Beavers their fifth sweep of the season but they also gave the Beavers advantage in the all-time series against St. Cloud State. BSU now leads the series 32-31-8, including a 17-13-4 mark in Bemidji, Minn.

Next up: Bemidji State will make its final regular season road trip next weekend as it travels to play Minnesota State University, Mankato Feb. 13-14. The Beavers swept the Mavericks earlier this season in Bemidji, Minn. by scores of 7-4 and 2-0.
