COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's hockey team fell to St. Cloud State (3-2-1, 2-0-1 WCHA) Friday evening at the OSU Ice Rink by a score of 4-2. The Buckeyes (4-3-0, 2-3-0 WHCA) recorded their first loss on home ice this season, but will have the opportunity earn revenge when the teams close the series at 1:07 p.m. Saturday in Columbus.

Ohio State got off to a strong start, scoring two unanswered goals in the opening stanza. Junior Julia McKinnon slipped one past St. Cloud goalie Julie Friend for the Buckeyes' first score at 13:11. McKinnon, who was positioned near the post, was fed by teammates Kayla Sullivan and Kari Schmitt. The goal was followed shortly by another for OSU, as Melani Moylan found the back of the net off a tricky play for Friend. The SCSU goalie was disrupted, while Moylan rotated to the slot to find her opening. The score put the Buckeyes up 2-0. Shots were 10-7 in favor of Ohio State for the period.

The second started off on a different note, as Saint Cloud capitalized early with goals. Off a defensive lapse from the Buckeyes' penalty kill unit later in the period, Husky Molly Illikainen scored the go-ahead tally on a break-away, short-handed play. Offensively, Ohio State was able to create opportunities, outshooting St. Cloud 19-6; however, the team was unable to convert. Penalties also added up between the squads. SCSU picked up four penalties for 19 minutes and Ohio State totaled four minutes on two called infractions.

Ohio State continued applying offensive pressure in the third, but Friend and the St. Cloud defense withstood the pressure. With less than a minute remaining on the clock, the Huskies added to their scoring total with an empty-net goal.

The Buckeye offense held a firm 45-19 advantage in shots over the Huskies. Friend was a force in net for the winning squad, as she was credited with 43 saves overall. Rookie Kassidy Sauve started and finished in goal for the Scarlet and Gray, earning 15 saves.
