BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State women's hockey team fell to the Minnesota Whitecaps, 4-1, in game one of its exhibition series Friday night. The Beavers' (4-7-1, 2-7-1 WCHA) lone goal was scored by freshman Haley Mack, her first wearing the Bemidji State sweater.

In just her third game starting this season, junior Erin Deters made 35 saves against the Whitecaps, including 27 in the games' first two periods to keep the Beavers within one until the third period.

After a scoreless first period, the Whitecaps' Jocelyn Lamoureaux-Morando scored the first goal at 13:30 in the second period. The Beavers responded however, and 4:22 later Mack evened the score at one. Freshmen Briana Jorde and Heather Olson each tallied their first assists on the goal. But just as soon as the Beavers scored, the Whitecaps retook the lead with just 37 seconds remaining in the period after Winny Brown found space in front of Deters.

The Whitecaps would go on to score two goals in the final period from Amy Stech and Monique Lamoureau-Davidson while goaltender Shelby Amesley-Benzie shutout the Beavers in the third period.

Bemidji State totaled 27 shots during the game but allowed the Whitecaps 39. Both teams would have opportunities to score the with the extra attacker, but each team went 0-for-2 on the power play.

Bemidji State and the Minnesota Whitecaps will play another exhibition game tomorrow and puck drop is scheduled for 3:07 p.m.
