ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Emily Bergland posted a goal and an assist to lead the Bemidji State University women's hockey team to a 3-1, non-conference victory at the Rochester Institute of Technology Friday afternoon in Rochester, N. Y.

After falling behind 1-0 midway though the first period, the Beavers responded with a power-play goal from Bergland to tie the game just four minutes later. Lauren Miller and Madison Hutchinson were credited with assists on the scoring play.

BSU opened the scond period locked in a 1-1 draw but got goals from Emma Terres and Melissa Hunt in the frame and would ride the two-goal edge to a 3-1 victory.

Bemidji State dominated play through the first two periods, out shooting the Tigers 30-16, but RIT came charging back in the third. Despite taking three penalties in the period, the Tigers out shot BSU 12-8 in the frame, but the Beavers' senior goaltender Brittni Mowat stood the test and kept RIT out of the net to preserve the victory.

The Beavers won the battle of special teams in a game that saw each team whistled for seven penalties. BSU was 1-for-5 with an extra skater, while its penalty-kill unit was a perfect 5-for-5.
