Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team owned a 27-18 advantage in shots on goal, but Lindenwood came out on top by a 5-1 margin in a nonconference contest played in Mankato on Friday.

Emma Hare jumped on a rebound at 15:30 of the opening period and scored her first career goal to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. Then, at 17:04, Lillian Marchand's backhander along the ice from in front of the net beat Katie Bidulka (2-5-0) between the pads and the two teams entered the locker rooms at the end of the opening period with Lindenwood owning a 2-0 edge.

At 4:50 of the second period, Cierra Paisley converted on a leftside backdoor chance to make the lead 3-0 Lindenwood. Britannia Gillanders took advantage of a turnover in the Maverick defensive zone to feed Carla Goodwin, who beat Brianna Quade, who had replaced Bidulka following the previous goal, gloveside at 13:42. Minnesota State junior defenseman Anna Keys one-timed a backhand pass from Emily Antony at 18:52 for her first goal of the year to cut the Lindenwood lead to 4-1.

Gillanders wristed a shot high on the stickside past Quade at 3:58 of the third to give the Lady Lions a 5-1 edge and that's how the game ended.

Minnesota State goaltenders Bidulka and Quade combined to make 13 stops in the game. The Mavericks converted on one-of-five power play chances, while Lindenwood finished one-for-three with the man advantage.

Minnesota State (3-11-1) and Lindenwood (2-10-1) close out the two-game series tomorrow with a 2:07 p.m., face-off at Verizon Wireless Center in downtown Mankato.
