WENTZVILLE, Mo. -- The UND women's hockey team ran into a determined Lindenwood squad for the weekend finale, as the Lions upset the Fighting Hawks, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.

After losing the first game of the weekend, 5-0, the Lions (4-12-2) came out in the second game with a chip on their shoulders. The Lions came right out and scored on their first shot of the game to take a 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the game.

North Dakota (10-7-5) battled to respond to the early goal, but Lindenwood would end up scoring again less than four minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. Despite out-shooting the Lions 10-5 in the first period, UND was left with a two-goal deficit after the first 20 minutes of play.

The Fighting Hawks looked to bring the ship around in the opening minutes of the second period. Gracen Hirschy created a turnover in neutral ice and moved to the puck up to Alyssa MacMillan for a two-on-one with Marissa Salo. MacMillan dished the puck over to Salo who one-timed it past LU goaltender Morgan Skinner to cut the Lions' lead in half.

Unfortunately, Lindenwood ended up scoring on the power play a little more than two minutes later to take back its two-goal lead.

North Dakota continued to fight back, but even with a 37-16 shot advantage by the end of the contest, UND was unable to find the back of the net for a second time in the game. Lindenwood added a four goal on an empty net with 18 seconds remaining in the game to seal the upset.

Netminder Lexie Shaw started the contest for UND, making seven saves, while freshman Kristen Campbell made just her second appearance in net for UND, stopping all five shots she faced in 26 minutes and 50 seconds of action.

Lindenwood blocked a total of 26 shots, as UND attempted a total of 75 shots in the contest.

The Fighting Hawks have concluded the 2016 portion of their season and will return to action on Jan. 13-14 for a conference series against Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn.
