Columbus, Ohio- Ohio State (4-6-1) earned its first home victory of the season on Friday night, defeating non-conference foe Lindenwood (0-7-0) 4-0.

Goals came from Maddy Field, Ariana DePinto, Katie Mikkelsen, and Julianna Iafallo; DePinto and Mikkelsen found the back of the net for the first time as Buckeyes, which was a welcome sight for head coach Nadine Muzerall.

"To have your third or fourth liners and some sixth or seventh ranked D putting the puck in the net is crucial so you're not always relying on a certain few girls," said Muzerall. "So to have the depth of the team scoring, we'll take that as well."

Goal number one came late in the second period, 18:38 to be precise. Jincy Dunne's pass found the stick of Dani Sadek, who dished it off to a wide open Field near the goal. The sophomore's shot went right by the goalie's blocker for her fifth goal of the year to put Ohio State up 1-0. The Buckeyes outshot the Lions 23-21 in the first two periods, with nine of those shots coming on three power plays.

"It seems to be a consistent problem of starting off a little slow," Muzerall said about the team's play tonight. "But when we challenged them to go in there and end well, which they did. It might have been a sloppy win but we'll take it."

Ohio State had an offensive outburst in the third period, scoring three goals. DePinto scored the first at the 11:53 mark, her second of the season. After picking off a Lindenwood pass in the neutral zone, the Buckeyes attacked the net; trailing the play, DePinto came up and corralled a loose puck that she buried for Ohio State goal number two. Liv Halvorson and Lauren Boyle added assists on the play, giving the former her first point as a Buckeye.

Mikkelsen's goal came next on a rocket from the point and gave her team a 3-0 lead. Ariana DePinto notched her second point of the night with an assist on the play and freshman Elise Riemenschneider also added a helper, her first career point. It was the first goal of the Mikkelsen's career, and drew praise from her head coach.

"It was nice for Katie Mikkelsen to score her first Buckeye goal," Muzerall said. "It was a heck of a shot from the point, and she needs to know that she can do that and trust herself to do that a little more."

The final goal of the night came off the stick of Iafallo. Lindenwood skated with an empty net for the final few minutes in an attempt to spark some offense, but all it did was allow the junior from Eden, N.Y. to score her second goal of the year and the fourth Buckeye goal of the night.

In net Kassidy Sauve posted her second shutout of the season, stopping all 32 shots Lindenwood sent her way. Ohio State also continued blocking shots at a good clip, standing in the way of 18 on the night. Jincy Dunne, Boyle, Sadek, and Jessica Dunne each had three.
