MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The No. 4 Minnesota women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 overtime tie with No. 1 Wisconsin in front of a sell-out crowd of 3,498 fans at Ridder Arena Saturday afternoon. The Badgers picked up an extra point in the WCHA standings with a 2-1 shootout win.

Nicole Schammel broke a scoreless tie with 2.3 seconds remaining in the second period when she scored her sixth goal of the season off a feed from Kelly Pannek. Minnesota's 1-0 lead held until the 13:35 mark of the third period when Wisconsin's Sarah Nurse scored to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team scored in overtime. Megan Wolfe then scored in the fourth round of the shootout for the Gophers, but Nurse responded with a goal for the Badgers before Jenny Ryan sealed the shootout victory for Wisconsin with a fifth-round goal.

With the tie, the Gophers pick up one point in the league standings to lock up a second-place finish in the WCHA regular season. Minnesota will host No. 7 seed Bemidji State in the WCHA First Round best-of-three series set for Friday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 26.

The Gophers and Badgers wrap up the regular season with this weekend's Border Battle series finale at 3 p.m. CT Sunday at Ridder Arena. The game is scheduled to air live on the Big Ten Network.
