If the Bulldogs weren't satisfied with the first 40 minutes of Friday night's game against Ohio State University, they had to be ecstatic with the final 20.

The No. 2 University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team unleashed its torrent offense on the Buckeyes in the third period, burying OSU with four goals over a 1:40 span en route to a 6-1 win at AMSOIL Arena. Overall, UMD improves to 17-4-4, 14-4-3 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and stays unbeaten in 2017 with a run of 4-0-1.

"The energy from the group changed from the second period to the third period," said UMD head coach Maura Crowell. "We talked about us being a good team and going out there and making a statement, and they responded really well to that."

Respond the Bulldogs did, putting up a whopping five goals in the first 9:35 of the final period. After outshooting OSU 22-9 in the first two periods, but having just a 1-1 tie on Demi Crossman's goal to show for it, Katherine McGovern found the net 2:34 into the third period to snap the stalemate. UMD followed that up at 7:55 with a blast from blueliner Jessica Healey at the top of the circle.

From there the Bulldogs were ruthless. Senior defenseman Sidney Morin added a goal from the slot 18 seconds later for the 4-1 lead, chased 22 seconds later by a tally from Maria Lindh. McGovern returned full circle a minute later to tack on her second goal and third point of the night, putting the exclamation point on a UMD record four goals over a 1:40 span.

In all, 10 players got on the scoresheet, with five players notching two or more points - McGovern (2g, 1a), Crossman (1g, 1a), Lindh (1g, 1a), Lara Stalder (2a) and Ashleigh Brykaliuk (2a).

UMD, who outshot the Buckeyes 40-19, will play for the regular season sweep tomorrow at 4:07 p.m. at AMSOIL.

BULLDOG NOTES: With two assists, Ashleigh Brykaliuk moved her point streak to 16-consecutive games ... Brykaliuk now has nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points over that span ... Lara Stalder also extended her current scoring spree to six games with two helpers Friday ... Stalder has an incredible eight goal, seven assists for 15 points run in her last six outings, and has recorded two or more points in five those games and three times over the scoring streak registered three or more points.
