ULUTH, Minn. - The University of North Dakota women's hockey team ended a six-game winless streak with a 3-2 victory over Ohio State to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

With the win North Dakota finishes with a WCHA record of 11-12-5-3 and finishes in fourth place. Even though Ohio State lost the final game, the Buckeyes will still finish in fifth place in the WCHA and will return to Ralph Engelstad Arena next weekend for the first round of WCHA playoffs, Feb. 24-26.

The Fighting Hawks got on the board first with an unassisted goal from freshman Emma Nuutinen at the 3:03 mark of the first period. Nuutinen created a turnover in the offensive zone and fired a shot on net. OSU goaltender Kassidy Sauve made the first save, but Nuutinen crashed the net and put the rebound in the back of the net for the early lead.

Senior goaltender Annie Chipman made her first collegiate appearance in net for UND to start the contest, in recognition of senior day. After the Nuutinen goal, fellow classmate Lexie Shaw took to the net for the remainder of the contest.

North Dakota out-shot Ohio State, 10-6, in the first period, but the Buckeyes came out in the second period and quickly tied the game up at 1-1 at the 3:10 mark.

However, the Fighting Hawks responded less than two minutes later to take back the lead. With the puck in the corner of the offensive zone, Nuutinen dished the puck out to the slot to Kayla Gardner who one-timed it over the blocker of Sauve to put UND back on top, 2-1.

Both teams again traded goals in the third period, this time with North Dakota scoring first for a 3-1 lead. In similar fashion to Gardner's goal, Amy Menke corralled the puck in the corner before making a pass out to the slot. Charly Dahlquist was on the receiving end of the pass and quickly got off a wrist shot over Sauve's glove for her seventh goal of the season.

The Buckeyes ended up scoring on a power play at the 14:04 mark of the third period, but Shaw and the UND defense would keep Ohio State from any further scoring.

North Dakota ended up out-shooting Ohio State, 29-17, in the contest. Sauve made 26 saves, while Shaw made 15.

The Fighting Hawks and Buckeyes will play game one in the best-of-three series to start postseason play next Friday at 2:07 p.m. (CT) back at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
