Columbus, Ohio- The Ohio State University women's ice hockey team defeated the South Korean Olympic Team by an 8-0 score in the final tune up before the regular season starts this weekend.

Olivia Soares opened the scoring early on with a goal at the 5:43 point of the first period. Newcomer Charly Dahlquist added to the lead with a goal at the 17:34 mark, and less than a minute later Maddy Field scored the third goal of the period.

It took nearly 13 minutes for the Buckeyes to score in the second period, but the floodgates opened soon after Rebecca Freiburger's goal at 12:53. Field netted her second goal of the game less than two minutes later. Emma Maltais scored back-to-back goals at the end of the second to give Ohio State a 7-0 lead heading into the third. The last goal of the game came from McKenna Wesloh with a little over 10 minutes to go in the game, securing the 8-0 win.

A multitude of Buckeyes picked up assists, led by Dani Sadek and Lisa Bruno's two each. Wesloh, Field, Jincy Dunne, Lauren Boyle, Tatum Skaggs and Jacyn Reeves all had one assist each.

All three OSU goaltenders saw time on the ice tonight, each taking a full period to help secure the shutout. Maggie Cory led the effort with 11 saves in the second period. Amanda Zeglen started things off strongly with five saves in the first period, while Kassidy Sauve finished things off with four saves in the third.

Ohio State opens the regular season with a series against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this weekend. Puck drop for the season opener is set for 6:07 p.m. on Friday, and the Saturday game is set for a 3:07 p.m. start on Saturday.
