WENTZVILLE, MO - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team (4-8-1, 2-6-0 WCHA) ended their first game in a weekend series against the Lindenwood University Lions (2-7-2, 1-4-1 CHA) in a 2-2 tie after an exchange of goals between the teams.
The Huskies' senior leading point-scorer Julia Tylke opened the scoring at 16:02 of the first period, giving SCSU the 1-0 lead into the intermission. Tylke's goal marks a five-goal game streak and put her at 75 career points.
At almost the same time on the clock in the second period, the Lion's Nicole Guagliardo tied the game 1-1. Lindenwood then took the lead three minutes into the third period. LU's second goal was by Jada Burke and assisted by Taylor Kirwan.
St. Cloud's Emma Bigham scored the tying goal (her first goal of the season) for SCSU just over a minute later and the game would remain tied through regulation. Bigham was assisted by Hannah Potrykus and Janna Haeg. The overtime period ended scoreless and game one finished in a 2-2 road tie for the Huskies.
St. Cloud State goaltender Janine Alder stopped 32 shots in the game; Lindenwood's Sophie Wolf had 22 saves. Final shots on goal from today's game in Wentzville were SCSU 24, LU 34. St. Cloud went 0-5 on the power play and 4-0 on the penalty kill.
The Huskies and Lions play game two tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in Wentzville, MO.
