Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State used a pair of third-period goals in skating past visiting Rensselaer by a 3-1 margin Sunday in nonconference women's college hockey action in Mankato.

Combined with Saturday's 2-0 win, the Mavericks earned their first home sweep since opening the 2016-17 campaign with a pair of wins over RIT.

Defenseman Josefine Hansen backhanded a shot under the right pad of Minnesota State freshman Abigail Levy as RPI took a 1-0 lead at 7:52 of the opening period. The Mavericks responded at the 11:47 mark when sophomore center Brittyn Fleming collected a rebound off of Rebehak Kolstad's shot before tallying her first goal of the season.

The visiting Engineers outshot the Mavericks by a 10-6 margin in the middle stanza, but neither team was able to put the puck into the net.

At 11:43 of the third period, freshman defenseman Anna Wilgren took a shot from the top of the left circle that beat Lovisa Selander on the stickside to break the tie. The goal is Wilgren's first career goal (and, of course, her first career game-winning goal). The Mavericks added an insurance marker at 18:26 when senior center Corbin Boyd tallied into an empty net for her first goal of the year.

The Mavericks, who outshot RPI by a 26-21 margin in the game, went scoreless in one power play chance. RPI was held scoreless in its two power play opportunities. Freshman netminder Abigail Levy, who stopped 20 shots, upped her record to 2-0 for the season.

The Mavericks (2-0-0) play Oct. 12-13 at Western College Hockey Association-foe Ohio State in their next action.
