MANKATO, Minn. - The Minnesota State women's hockey team falls 5-2 in game two to Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon at Mankato Civic Center.
The Beavers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of action over the Mavericks. At the 9:11 mark, senior blueliner Heather Olson took a shot from the right dot and off the post, past sophomore netminder Abigail Levy. Bemidji State then converted on a two-on-one opportunity as senior forward Kiki Radke fed junior linemate Lydia Passolt at the 14:34 mark, scoring in the low right corner.
The Mavericks were able to cut the deficit in half at the 5:31 mark in the second period as senior captain Emily Antony connected with freshman winger Kelsey King in the slot for her third goal of the season. BSU took back the two goal lead on a power play at the 15:18 mark as Radke fed junior winger Paige Beebe from below the red line and beat Levy to her glove side. Bemidji State took a three goal lead a little over a minute later as Radke tipped in a shot from junior blueliner Tina Kampa in front of the net.
Both teams scored a goal in the third period with the Beavers scoring first at the 1:03 mark as Radke scored her second goal of the game on a rebound off Levy's pads. Minnesota State scored their second goal of the game at the 6:55 mark as sophomore winger Madison Oelkers fired a wrister from the right dot and beat junior netmider Lauren Bench top shelf.
Sophomore Abigail Levy (3-5-1) made 17 saves in the loss. Freshman Calla Frank came in just after the start of the third period and made 10 saves.
The Mavericks were outshot by the Beavers 32-22 in the game. Minnesota State went zero-for-two on the power play and Bemidji State converted on its only opportunity.
Now standing with a 6-8-2 (2-8-2-2 WCHA) record, Minnesota State will next take part in the Windjammer Classic in Burlington, Vt., on Nov. 29-30. The Mavericks will face #5 Clarkson on Nov. 29 at 1:00 p.m., EST before facing either Penn State or host Vermont on Nov. 30.
