SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Bemidji State University senior forward Abby Halluska scored the game-winning goal with 1:33 left to play to secure the Beavers' seventh consecutive victory, setting a new program record at Bemidji State. The Beavers (10-8-1, 6-6-0 WCHA) earned a 2-1 victory over Union College (2-13-3, 2-4-1 ECAC) breaking the program's old win streak record of six set back in the 2017-18 season.
Five Beavers recorded a point in the game including junior Paige Beebe and Halluska who netted BSU's goals while Mak Langei, Tina Kampa and Jacqueline Kaasa each recorded assists.
Redshirt junior Lauren Bench earned her sixth consecutive victory in net after stopping 21-of-22 shots by the Dutchwomen and improves her season record to 8-6-0, one win shy of tying a single-season wins mark.
After a scoreless first period and most of the second period past, Bemidji State found the back of the net first when Paige Beebe scored her sixth goal of the season after receiving a drop pass from Jacqueline Kaasa and firing the puck past Union goaltender Bella Mckee with just 4:06 left in the middle frame. The second period ended with the Beavers leading 1-0 and the shots tied 13-13.
Union tied the game halfway through the third period when Leah Herrfort scored a power-play goal with 8:51 remaining for her second goal of the season. The Beavers responded by outshooting the Dutchwomen 6-2 after the tying goal and broke the tie when Halluska beat Mckee with just 1:33 remaining for her fourth goal of the season. Halluska's goal proved to be the game-winning marker after Bench and the Beavers' defense held the Dutchwomen off the scoreboard for the remaining time.
The Beavers didn't get a power-play chance during the game but killed off three-of-four for Union.
Bemidji State improves to 10-8-1 on the season which is their best mark for the first half of the season since the Beavers went 13-5-2 during the first half of the 2015-16 season en route to a program record 22 wins.
The Beavers will attempt at their eighth consecutive victory tomorrow afternoon when they face the Dutchwomen for the series finale at 2:00 p.m. ET.
