COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's ice hockey team (9-3-3, 6-3-3 WCHA) defeated Colgate (8-6-2, 3-2-1 ECAC) Friday afternoon 6-2 with four second period goals. Liz Schepers, Rebecca Freiburger and Emma Maltais each scored two goals against the Raiders while junior goaltender Lynsey Wallace recorded her third career win in net.

First Period

Ohio State jumped out to an early lead in game one as Schepers scored two goals in the opening 20 minutes. In the seventh minute, Jincy Dunne forced a turnover in the neutral zone and fed Maltais entering the zone who dished it off to Schepers for the score. Just under 10 minutes later, Schepers converted again on a quick shot off the initial shot attempt by Dunne. At the end of one, Ohio State outshot Colgate 11-7.

Second Period

Six goals were scored in the second period as Freiburger and Maltais added two apiece for the Buckeyes while Darcie Lappan and Malia Schneider put the Raiders on the board. Colgate scored first in the second minute to cut the Buckeye lead in half, 2-1. Just 50 seconds later, Sara Saekkinen fed Freiburger from behind the net who buried her shot past Auby. The five Ohio State skaters stayed on the ice and Freiburger converted again just 25 seconds later. Her second goal of the period was again assisted by Saekkinen.

After the two quick Buckeye goals, the Raiders switched goaltenders as Alexa Dobchuk took the ice. Good news came in pairs for Ohio State as Maltais was the next Buckeye to score twice. In the seventh minute Maltais was assisted by Tatum Skaggs and Schepers on the breakout as she skated up the ice and fired off a long-range shot over Dobchuk's glove. Colgate struck again in the eighth minute to cut the deficit to three but Maltais was quick to respond with her second of the evening to put the Bucks up 6-2 at the end of two periods.

Third Period

After eight combined goals in the first two period of play, neither team converted in the third and the Buckeyes tallied the win in game one against the Raiders. Wallace tallied 23 saves in net for the Buckeyes and clinched her third career and season win.
