MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team topped the Toronto Junior Aeros by a score of 9-2 in an exhibition game at Ridder Arena on Saturday afternoon. Emily Oden and Amy Potomak led the way with two goals each while Gracie Ostertag, Taylor Heise, Grace Zumwinkle, Alex Woken, and Catie Skaja also found the back of the net.
The Gophers held a 7-0 lead early in the third period but the Aeros scored back-to-back goals just 11 seconds apart to make it 7-2. However, the Gophers responded with goals from Woken and Skaja to cap off the 9-2 exhibition game victory. Overall, Crystalyn Hengler (4a) led the Gophers with a four-point effort while A. Potomak (2g-1a), Oden, (2g-1a), Heise (1g-2a), and Emily Brown (2a) all had multiple points in the win.
Three goaltenders split action for Minnesota as Alex Gulstene earned the win with two saves on two shots faced over the opening 20 minutes. Sydney Scobee made one save in period two, and Makayla Pahl made five saves on seven shots faced over the game's final 20 minutes. Minnesota outshot Toronto 53-10 for the game.
Three of Minnesota's four freshmen made their unofficial collegiate debuts in the exhibition game as Pahl, Madeline Wethington, and Sydney Shearen all represented the Maroon & Gold for the first time.

Minnesota hosts the 2019 NWHL Isobel Cup champion Minnesota Whitecaps in its second and final preseason exhibition game at 2 p.m. CT Sunday at Ridder Arena. Then the puck drops on the regular season next weekend when Minnesota welcomes 2018 NCAA runner-up Colgate to Ridder Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. CT Friday, Sept. 27 and 4:07 p.m. CT Saturday, Sept. 28.
