COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 5-ranked Ohio State women's ice hockey team recorded its first shutout of the season with a commanding 6-0 win over Minnesota State Friday evening. In the opening game of the New Year, six different Buckeyes tallied goals while sophomore goaltender Andrea Braendli recorded her seventh career shutout. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 12-5-4 (7-3-3 WCHA) while the Mavericks slip to 7-11-4 (2-9-2 WCHA).


Buckeye Bits

- Junior defender Lisa Bruno opened scoring with her first goal of the year and the third of her career.

- Emma Maltais tallied a team-high four points from three assists and one goal. She sits eighth in program history with 118 career points.

- Freshman forward Ramsey Parent notched her first career point with an assist.

- Six different Buckeyes scored in the 6-0 win while eight different players notched assists.

- Ohio State outshot the Mavericks, 48-13.

- Sophomore goaltender Andrea Braendli recorded 13 saves for the Buckeyes and notched her seventh career shutout and first of the season.


First Period

The Buckeyes started the New Year on a high note, scoring two, first period goals. Junior defender Lisa Bruno scored her first goal of the season on a no-angle shot just four minutes into the period. Junior forward Tatum Skaggs notched one of her own three minutes later and the Buckeyes secured an early 2-0 lead. Ohio State led 17-5 in shots after the first stanza.


Second Period

Ohio State lit the lamp three times in the middle third to give them a comfortable 5-0 lead after two. Liz Schepers struck first in the eighth minute to increase her season goal total to 16. With the score, Calla Frank relieved Abigail Levy in net for the Mavericks. Just one minute and 24 seconds later, Rebecca Freiburger scored her fourth of the season, assisted by Brooke Bink and Jincy Dunne. Gabby Rosenthal capped of the second period scoring at exactly the 10 minute mark, making all three second period goals within 2:48 of each other.


Third Period

The score held at 5-0 until Emma Maltais scored a power play goal with 40 seconds remaining to play. Maltais, Schepers, Rosenthal and Skaggs all lead the Buckeyes with six shots apiece in the contest.
