Sophomore goaltender Calla Frank made 23 saves for the Mavericks

BEMIDJI, Minn. - Minnesota State University, Mankato goaltender Calla Frank turned aside all 23 shots by the Bemidji State University women's hockey team to help the Mavericks earn a 4-0 victory and sweep the weekend's series Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Beavers fall to 1-6-1 overall (1-6-1 WCHA) and have now lost five consecutive games while the Mavericks improve to 4-7-1 and 4-7-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play.

Minnesota State opened the scoring in the second period after a scoreless first period when Jessica Kondas scored a power-play goal just 2:46 into the middle frame for her first goal of the season. The Mavericks added to their lead with 5:29 left in the frame when Kelsey King deflected a Taylor Wemple shot from the point to go up 2-0.

Minnesota State then scored two goals just 13 seconds apart at 17:39 and 17:52 of the third period to seal the 4-0 victory. King scored her second of the game at 17:39 while Madison Mashuga followed with her second goal of the season just seconds later.

Bemidji State was outshot in the game 27-23 with senior goaltender Kerigan Dowhy making 23 saves but she falls to 1-5-1 on the season. Frank improves to 3-5-1 this season after she turned aside all 23 shots for her third career shutout and first of the season.

Bemidji State will look to end its losing skid on the road next weekend when it travels to St. Cloud State University for a two-game, league series versus the Huskies, January 15-16.
