BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) -- The Bemidji State University men's hockey team scored three third-period goals Saturday to pull away from No. 15 Bowling Green State University, 4-1, and sweep the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.

The sweep marked BSU's first of the season and the first time the Falcons have been swept since Feb. 20 and 21, 2015.

Brett Beauvais gave the Beavers an early lead when he scored his first goal of the season from the top of the right faceoff circle at the 7:59 mark of the first period. Nate Arentz and Myles Fitzgerald were credited with assist on the play.

Bowling green bounced back 3:40 into the second, knotting the game on a Mitch McLain goal.

The Beavers responded with an inspired third period of play. BSU totaled three goals. Charlie O'Connor's first goal of the season came on passes from Dan Billett and Phillip Marinaccio just 1:19 into the frame. Gerry Fitzgerald added a 4-on-4 goal a the 7:19 mark as Billett and Beauvais each collected tier second point of the game on the assists. Brendan Harms recorded his first goal of the 2016-17 at the 11:16 mark, while the Beavers were in the midst of their sixth power-play opportunity of the evening. The senior tapped in a 5-on-3 goal after collecting a rebound off a Zach Whitecloud shot from the point.

The Beavers finished the night 1-for-7 on the man advantage, while its penalty-kill unit was a perfect 8-for-8 to move to 13-for-13 on the season.
