HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team wrapped up the 2020-21 home slate on Sunday afternoon at the Von Braun Center with a 4-2 loss to No. 13 Bowling Green in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action. UAH dips to 3-14-1 (3-9-0 WCHA), while BGSU improves to 19-8-1 (8-5-1 WCHA).


Turning Point

-Bowling Green scored three unanswered goals in the third period to lead the Falcons to the 4-2 win on Sunday.


Scoring Breakdown

-UAH went on the board first at 18:34 of the opening period when Lucas Bahn banked a wrist shot off BGSU goalie Zack Rose to put the Chargers up 1-0. Both Connor Merkley and Adrian Danchenko notched assists on the goal.

-Bowling Green knotted the game at 1-1 with a goal 57 seconds into the second period by Tim Theocharidis.

-The Chargers pulled ahead with a shorthanded goal by Drew Lennon at 9:32 of the second to make it 2-1 UAH.

-The Falcons went on to score three times in the third period by Connor Ford at 9:17 on the power play, Sam Craggs at 10:11 and again by Ford at 19:11 to bring the game to its 4-2 final score.


Inside the Box Score

-David Fessenden took the loss in goal to slip to 3-8-1 this season, after posting 23 saves and three goals allowed on Sunday.

-Danchenko finished with a team-high two points on two assists.

-UAH had 18 shots on goal as a team, led by Bauer Neudecker with four shots on goal.

-Ayodele Adeniye had a team-high two blocks, as UAH recorded 11 blocks as a team.

-Tyrone Bronte won a team-high 12 faceoffs.


Noteworthy

-Both Connor Merkley and Connor Wood played their final home games in their collegiate careers, as UAH honored both prior to the contest.

-Danchenko recorded his first career multi-point and multi-assist performance with two assists Sunday.

-Bahn's goal was the first of his career.


Next Time Out

-UAH wraps up the 2020-21 regular season next Saturday and Sunday at rival Bemidji State.
