Balanced Scoring Sends Bemidji State Past Michigan Tech, 6-3
Senior forward Aaron Miller and junior forward Owen Sillinger each had two assists for the Beavers

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) - A five-goal second period by the Bemidji State University men's hockey team sealed a 6-3 victory over Michigan Technological University Saturday evening to earn the Beavers their first victory of the 2020-21 season.

Bemidji State saw six different goal scorers in the game while senior Aaron Miller and junior Owen Sillinger each recorded two assists.

After a 1-1 first period of play, Brenden Harris scored his first goal since the 2018-19 season to ignite the Beavers' attack. Captain Ethan Somoza netted his first of his senior season at the 5:54 mark of the frame. Over the course of the next 54 seconds, BSU would get goals from Alex Ierullo and Lukas Sillinger marking the fastest three goals since BSU made the leap to the NCAA Division I level for the 1999-2000 season.

MTU answered with a goal by Carson Bantle 15 seconds after (6:55) the BSU scoring burst to stop the bleeding temporarily, but Nick Cardelli added his first goal of the 2020-21 campaign at the 12:49 mark of the second to give the Beavers a 6-2 advantage heading into the final 20 minutes of play.

Despite allowing a third goal by the Huskies midway through the third period, BSU cruised to its first win of the season, 6-3.

Senior Zach Driscoll stopped 29-of-32 shots by the Huskies (1-3-1, 0-0-0 WCHA) to earn his first victory of the season.

The same teams will be back in action tomorrow. The opening face off is set for 2:07 p.m. at Sanford Center.
