The four-game lineup doubles last year’s two Bally Sports broadcasts and features five teams ranked in the national polls.
Starting off with a spotlighted series, No. 1 Ohio State hosts No. 5/8 Wisconsin on Friday, Jan. 13 on Bally Sports North Extra, Wisconsin, and Great Lakes. A highly contested matchup between top-10 teams in the nation, fans can expect a battle between some of college hockey’s top players in the 5 p.m. CT puck drop at the home of the defending national champions. It’ll be the first matchup between Ohio State and Wisconsin this season in a fight for important points in league standings.
Throughout the first half of the season, Minnesota Duluth has been nationally ranked in the top-10 and is currently checked in at No. 6/7. The Bulldogs travel to take on the Tommies of St. Thomas on Sunday, Jan. 22, a squad that recently earned its first WCHA series sweep (Dec. 16-17) and longest unbeaten streak of five games since making the transition to Division I in the 2021-22 season. The last matchup between the two teams skated to a 1-1 overtime tie on Dec. 10, before St. Thomas claimed the extra league point with a shootout win.
January's Bally Sports broadcasts round out on Saturday, Jan. 28 as women's college hockey returns to the Hockey Day Minnesota lineup. Although celebrated outdoors in White Bear Lake this year, Bemidji State travels to No. 14 St. Cloud State for an indoor broadcast filling the day with hockey coverage of all levels. From high school hockey, women's and men's college hockey, and the Minnesota Wild, the WCHA's inclusion in Hockey Day Minnesota festivities has the Beavers facing off against a No. 14 St. Cloud State squad that has earned its highest national rankings this season since 2009.
Closing out the broadcast schedule with another top-5 matchup is the highly anticipated Border Battle as Wisconsin travels to Minnesota on Friday, Feb. 10 at Ridder Arena, the home of the 2023 Kwik Trip WCHA Final Faceoff. With Wisconsin currently ranked at No. 5/8 in the nation, the Badgers take on the No. 3/4 ranked Minnesota Gophers. Earlier this season, the pair skated to a 3-3 tie on Nov. 19 where Minnesota claimed the shootout win, while Wisconsin rebounded with a 4-1 win on Nov. 20.
