No. 2 Buckeyes Defeat Tommies, 6-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team earned a 6-2 win over St. Thomas Friday evening at the St. Thomas Ice Arena. The Buckeyes (4-1-0, 3-0-0 WCHA) had 11 different players record a point and five goal scorers on the day against the Tommies (4-3-0, 0-3-0 WCHA).
 
How it Happened
  • Hannah Bilka scored the Buckeyes' first and last goals of the game. She put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard with a goal at 1:10 in the first period after deflecting a shot from Joy Dunne past St. Thomas goaltender Calla Frank. Bilka closed out Ohio State's scoring with just 1:53 to play in the game, as the Buckeyes found the back of the net for the sixth time.
  • St. Thomas tied the game at 6:08 in the first period, but Ohio State scored three goals in under two and a half minutes to take a commanding lead into the first intermission.
  • Lauren Bernard put the Buckeyes back in front at 11:15 in the first period with a goal from the point. Sixty-one seconds later, Jocelyn Amos found the back of the net after knocking a rebounded puck past Frank. Kiara Zanon followed that up a minute and 26 seconds later with a goal from the slot to give Ohio State a 4-1 lead with under seven minutes to play in the opening frame.
  • The second period was almost scoreless, but sophomore Emma Peschel tallied the Buckeyes' fifth goal of the game with under a second left on the clock.
  • The Tommies were quick to score in the third period, getting one past Raygan Kirk 13 seconds into the frame. But Bilka restored the four-goal lead at 18:07.
Game Notes
  • Bilka led the Buckeyes with two goals and three points on the day. She has now tallied a point in each of the last three games and continues to lead the team with eight points this season.  
  • Scoring the game-winning goal on Friday, Amos also recorded her first goal of her collegiate career.
  • Dunne recorded her first multi-point game of her career with two assists against St. Thomas.  
  • Stephanie Markowski tallied her first point as a Buckeye with an assist on the fourth goal.
  • Raygan Kirk made 17 saves on the day for her third win of the season.
  • Bilka and Zanon led the Buckeyes with a +4 on ice.
  • Ohio State's six goals against St. Thomas are the most scored in a game by the Buckeyes this season. The game also marks the first of the season Ohio State recorded over 50 shots on goal with 57.
